Débutants, amateurs et avancés ; Smart Phones, Pads, Point and Shoot, DSLR et Mirrorless.

I really enjoyed the photography tour with Donald. I am a self-taught photographer, enthusiastic but un-schooled. On this tour I learned a lot about how to frame a shot, and compose photographs in original ways. So many times I think tourists take shots of sights in a rudimentary way - "look, there's a statue" - "look at the beautiful cathedral" etc. I learned to take photos that were interesting beyond just the sights themselves; shots that were legitimately interesting in their own right. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who likes travel photography, and who wants to learn how to take their composition to the next level.

Thank you for the magnificent and informative review of The Savvy Native’s PhotoWalks French Quarter Advanced Tour. One of the best reviews we’ve ever had the pleasure to read. Donald mentioned the “great time shared in the streets” and your “success at creating images versus just taking pictures”. Next time in town you may want to consider taking a walk with The Savvy Native thru The Garden District or one of New Orleans’ Cemeteries, excellent opportunities to capture images “uniquely ours”. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience. We greatly appreciate your recommendation and would be interested in seeing what you saw if you would like to share your images with us at [email protected]. We look forward to seeing you again when you get back…

What a waste of two hours and $115! Billed as a walking tour of achitecture and advanced photography, we were taken to spots any tourist could have stumpled upon and any prepared tourist would have already read about in a brochure of the city. The guide said he taught photography but I am not sure where that could be because he was not knowledgable about the cameras our members carried nor did he offer any technical advice for the speciifc locations. He actually placed his hands on my husband's shoulders and arms to move him to where he thought he should stand despite the fact that my husband is an experienced photographer and has won awards at several photo competitions and told the guide he was wanting certain shots. So disappointed and perturbed!

Thank you for giving us the opportunity to define expectations for our New Orleans PhotoWalks French Quarter Advanced Tour. Our French Quarter Advanced Tour is for experienced photographers. We also offer a French Quarter Beginners Tour for beginners and a Cemetery PhotoWalks Tour suitable for both beginners and advanced. While our tour stops are primarily driven by lighting we believe every photograph taken in the French Quarter and our Cemeteries is a unique opportunity. You want to be a better photographer “stand in front of more interesting stuff”. Our goal is to combine the history behind the shot as well as match instruction to skill level. Our guide, an Adjunct Professor at Delgado Community College whose course offerings consistently receive high reviews, focuses a lot on balance, symmetry and composition skills during the advanced tours. We were very sorry to hear of your disappointment but based on other’s reviews of our PhotoWalks Tours you may have enjoyed and benefited more from one of our other photography offerings. We have fully refunded your tour.

This is review is a little late, but my husband and I really enjoyed our walking tour of the french quarter with Donald in early May 2018. We met him in Washington Artillery Park. Donald knew a ton about the history of New Orleans and the French Quarter, and was a terrific teacher to help us learn more about how to compose great photos. I loved that I could learn with my iPhone rather than carrying my big 35mm camera...since I always have my iPhone with me. We totally lucked out that day as we were the only two people signed up for our tour so we ended up with a private tour that Donald was able to tailor a bit to our interests. We highly recommend this tour!

Hi Kristin, Thank you for your wonderful review of The Savvy Native's New Orleans French Quarter Advanced Photo Walks Tour. Donald mentioned your interest in learning about NOLA and developing your composition skills. He commented on how much fun he had, the great interaction and the feeling like he was with friends. In reference to being able to learn with your iPhone, Donald is often fond of saying “The best camera is always the one that’s with you”. Please keep us in mind the next time you’re headed this way and thank you once again!
