Your expert crew can answer any questions that you may have about the animals you see. Afterward, your captain steers the boat into a special spot for snorkeling. We provide your snorkel gear and detailed safety and snorkeling instructions. As you enjoy your meal, we begin a leisurely cruise back to the marina. Throughout the cruise Throughout the tour, we serve unlimited bottled water and soft drinks while your captain and crew share the history and legends of the Waianae Coast. I went on a half day snorkel excursion with Ocean Joy Cruises this past weekend during my trip to Hawaii, and I was very impressed. I would recommend the day excursion to anyone wanting to snorkel. The entire crew (from the captain to the crewmates to the photographer) were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. The large catamaran was comfortable and clean. We cruised out of the harbor in the morning and settled into a beautiful open spot on the Pacific Ocean with mountains to our right. The crew knew right where to stop to see a pod of spinner dolphins putting on a show. After the dolphins were done, the crew passed out equipment. They gave us a safety demonstration and passed out clean, highly functional gear. The crew and photographer got into the water with us and pointed out the sea turtles, fish, and sea urchins. They were extremely friendly and helped whenever anyone needed. The photographs were beautiful and worth the price! After the snorkel, we had a slow cruise with great food (pulled pork, chicken, pineapple) and Hawaiian cocktails and slowly made our way back to shore. The excursion was a memorable part of my trip, and I would highly recommend!

On a recent trip to Oahu in March, my husband and I decided to go on the dolphin/snorkel catamaran cruise with Ocean Joy out of Ko 'Olina, Oahu at the recommendation of the Expedia representative at our hotel. This trip was a splurge, but we have a sailboat at home and love to snorkel so we thought this would be a fun adventure...not exactly! The best part about the trip was when we spotted some humpback whales and got to spend some time watching them surface for air and actually breach the water a few times. There were no dolphins or sea turtles, though. When it was time to snorkel, we all were required to wear these ridiculous inflatable life vests, but the person (Mason) who gave everyone instructions did a nice job. I didn't bring my own equipment so I used theirs, and it fit so poorly that my mask leaked terribly and I had to quit after 5 minutes but I could tell there wasn't anything to see anyway (except for the few fish at the surface that were eating the food the Captain threw out to attract them). I felt sorry for the people onboard who'd never snorkeled before because it was just a horrible experience, and snorkeling can be so much fun. The food was good, but the bar didn't open until after everyone snorkeled which was towards the end of the day so there wasn't much time to enjoy the drinks that were included. Big bummer. The worst part of the day was the bus ride. We were told transportation was included (had we known it was an option, we could have driven our rental car ourselves!) but the bus made numerous stops picking up guests at hotels along the way so it was insufferable, and we were on the bus about an hour less than some of the others were. Beware of the long bus ride to the west shore... Other notes: The boat wasn't nearly as big as advertised (61', not so much), and certainly not valued at $1 million. The Captain spent a lot of time flirting with the young girls onboard (ewwww) but the crew was friendly and attentive. It would be nice if they would fix the bathroom doors so they would latch properly and not fling open at the worst time! If you are prone to sea sickness - stay away! It just makes for a bad time for you and for everyone else who has to see you in action. I cannot recomment this excursion. It was way too expensive for what you get. Find separate snorkeling and dolphin/whale watching trips - that way you'll get one experience per trip and it's bound to be much better.

Booked the sunset cruise from a beach kiosk - the enthusiastic sales lady did a great sales pitch, too good because we were expecting more than what was delivered. However we did overall have an enjoyable experience but not sure if it was worth the relatively expensive price. I'll make these comments: The cruise takes place west of Honolulu - that means at least an hour on the highway on a bus each way, maybe more depending on where you get picked up. The bus itself however is large and comfortable. The catamaran is not large but they do limit the number of fares so it doesn't get too crowded. We only saw one turtle (off in the distance), some spinner dolphins, the snorkeling was good, water very clear, not a whole lot of colourful fish, but since this was our first time snorkeling, we don't have much to compare it to. Buffet food was good and tasty but not great (can't expect too much on a boat !). Free soft drinks and beer and liquor (stick to the beer!). The crew of young people were great - very enthusiastic, friendly and helpful. We took the sunset cruise (lasted about 2.5 hrs in total), it was a hour shorter than the daytime cruise. Daytime cruise is probably better for October as not only is it longer but on the sunset cruise the return trip is completely in the dark - no sightseeing. The experience was good overall but not a great value for the money.
