Southern Black Hills Parks and Monuments Tour
I'd give 6 stars if I could for this fantastic tour.
I'd been fascinated by Mount Rushmore since I was 7 years old when I saw it featured in a comic. Finally, on the day before my 60th birthday, I got to see it, and I'm so glad I chose the Black Hills Tour Company to make it happen.
Firstly, they replied to all my email queries promptly and courteously (Kevin and Melina have customer service sussed!).
Secondly, Cindy, my guide for my tour, was friendly and knowledgeable, and planned the day around what I most wanted to do. Her driving put mine to shame - the way she went through the narrow tunnels on the Needles Highway was incredible.
So, here's what happened:
I was picked up from my hotel nice and early on what turned out to be a glorious blue-sky day. We drive to Mount Rushmore via some very windy roads, spent a really good time walking around there, then headed for the Needles Highway which was incredible.
Lunch at Custer (quaint place) then to the Crazy Horse Memorial (which is fascinating from a history point of view), and finally the Wildlife Loop around Custer State Park where we saw baby bison and so much more. I returned to my hotel 9 hours later and very, very happy.
I'd looked at various tour companies for my trip, and settled on the Black Hills Tour Company as the reviews were all excellent and, most importantly, they know the area backwards.
The day was worth every penny, and I'm still beaming that I finally ticked Mount Rushmore off my bucket list the day before I hit 60 :-)
