My son and I fished with Captain Mike on 7/10/17 on the 6 hour halibut and salmon charter. The entire process from answering my initial email, payment, meeting us at the dock, and the trip itself went perfectly. We fished with a mother and son so there were 4 people fishing on our trip. Mike (the owner and captain) is very knowledgeable, professional, patient, and personable. Mike was extremely helpful always baiting the hooks and getting the fish off of the lines. Mike's fishing equipment and boat are well maintained and spotless. We caught our limits of 1 halibut per person and then even caught a silver salmon. The added bonus was seeing a pod of orcas and a breaching humpback whale. Mike handled getting our fish to the processor and the fish arrived at our house on the day requested. I would highly recommend going with the Alaska Catch fishing Charters. Thanks Captain Mike! Ken & Ben

My husband and son had a beautiful day on the combined six hour Halibut and Salmon fishing expedition. We were on a cruise, but booked this tour privately. Communication was excellent, access to the boat was a breeze. Knowledgeable, personable captain. Fish has arrived home to Indiana all packaged, frozen and ready to cook. Highly recommend!

There are many less expensive options for fishing charters in Ketchikan but we chose The Alaska Catch because of the amazing reviews on Trip Advisor. We booked a salmon fishing trip for July 18th, 2017. The fee after taxes was $607.05 for two of us and we were invoiced and paid via paypal. We then were able to purchase our fishing license online for an additional $40 each (1 day non resident plus a king salmon stamp). Jimmy met us at the dock bright and early and explained that Captain Mike had relatives in town and was taking the week off. Jimmy said he was doing double shifts each day and was super tired. It was a short walk from the cruise ship to the boat. The boat was very clean and looked new (I uploaded a photo with this review). Jimmy was polite and answered all questions we had about salmon fishing and Ketchikan but was tired and not very enthusiastic. Unfortunately, the fish were not biting. We sat and sat and sat for four hours with no activity. I read a review written on July 25 (on another popular review site) that the salmon were not biting so Captain Mike offered to take them out for halibut fishing at no additional cost. Sadly, we were not offered that option. While we understand that fish are wildlife and there isn’t any guarantee of catching them, Jimmy confirmed the salmon had been slow and we were told by an Alaska wildlife expert on the cruise ship that the salmon were late this year. We do wish we had been told that before we spent the amount of money we did for a salmon fishing charter (we would have opted for a different excursion) or that we would have been offered an option to upgrade and try for halibut since the salmon weren’t biting. It was a disappointing day.

Journey512, You may find it hard to believe, but I want to thank you for your review on The Alaska Catch. We rely on our clients feedback to ensure we maintain a high level of customer service and to understand your expectations. If we are excelling at this then we want potential guest to know about it. If we're not then it gives us a chance to improve and grow to provide a better service in the future. You booked a Private 4 hour salmon charter with us. Fishing license, King Stamps, and sales tax are not included in the cost of the trip. We quoted you a price on a "Private" 4 hour salmon charter for 2 clients. We did not add clients to the boat as promised. Halibut fishing requires a 6 hour timeframe as the halibut grounds are 45-50 minutes away as mentioned before booking. This is why halibut fishing was not offered to you on the day of you trip. We also point out that if you have any special request to please let us know in advance. I'm glad to hear our guide Jimmy was very polite and met you early and on time at your cruise ship. You also noticed Jimmies attention to detail in providing a clean and new boat that was rigged and ready to fish. I'm glad he answered all your questions and I see you even took his advice and enjoyed your meal in town after the trip. Captain Jimmy is a born and raised Alaskan fisherman. He grew up commercial salmon fishing and has been guiding clients in Ketchikan for several years. After talking with him about your trip he was running different gear targeting King, silver, and pink salmon. All of which have been caught in weeks/days leading up to your arrival. If you go to our Facebook page you will see photos showing our guest have been catching salmon in both June and July before your arrival. July is generally a great month for salmon fishing. May is the slowest monthly our season for salmon fishing. As a fishing guide it's impossible to hit a home run every time you go up to bat. No one knows the pressure of fulfilling your Alaskan fishing dreams on a 4 hour charter more than a fishing guide. Jimmy told me he worked very hard changing depths, locations, and presentations trying to put you on the fish. July is the busiest month of the season. Booking far in advance is highly recommended. With that being said it is not uncommon for a guide to work a double. We don't schedule our guides to work back to back doubles. This ensures proper rest throughout the season and allows our guides to show up early with a well prepared boat. Cpt Jimmy worked 5 doubles spread throughout the entire month of July. Cpt Mike scheduled 1 day off this year to spend the day with his family and daughter Allison on her 3rd birthday. I'm sorry to read that you were disappointed with your experience with our company.
