Captain Mike took my family fishing on August 20, 2015. The trip far exceeded our expectations. Mike was extremely knowledgeable, patient, and pleasant. We caught salmon, halibut, and rock fish. Our 12 and 8 year old boys had a blast and are still talking about the trip over a month later. We would highly recommend The Alaska Fishing Charters for a great day of fishing:)

Booked our trip at the last minute the day before we arrived in Ketchikan by way of the Princess Star. Captain Chuck was happy to accommodate us and was very friendly over the phone. Once we were on his fishing boat, which was a 60 second walk from the main dock, we purchased our fishing licenses, which were about $20 a pop. Also, at the time, his prices were quite competitive at $170ish per person with a four person minimum. We only had a party of 3, so I paid for a phantom person. No big deal, in my opinion. His clean and modern fishing boat was fitted with what seemed to be the latest tackle, navigational equipment, radios, and each of us had our own rod. Additionally, he was very patient and understanding with the fact that we're from the city and know very little about deep sea fishing. Our lack of knowledge, however, was COMPLETELY eclipsed by the fact that he was VERY knowledgeable of the waters around Ketchikan. After about 10 minutes from setting up and putting our lines in the water, we caught our first salmon. In fact, we caught our legal limit; 18 pink salmon in all, within 4 hours. Yeah, he's that good. When we were done, he took us back to town (about a 15-20 minute boat ride) and he took our fish to the processing plant so we could have them cleaned and shipped home. The facility also smoked a few pounds of salmon for us at an additional charge. The shipping worked out to be $100-something per person which was like 6, 5-6 lb fish. It wasn't the most efficient way to get Alaskan salmon at home, but it was a real treat which impressed all of our friends and family. Go on this excursion, you'll be glad you did.

We were in Ketchikan as part of a cruise to celebrate our 50th Anniversary and I arranged all of the shore excursions for our family of 17 which included 9 children! We tried for group experiences in Juneau and Skagway but in Ketchikan everyone got to chose and, with the exception of 3 zip liners, the rest of our family wanted to go fishing! I had to use two charters to accommodate our numbers and both were excellent. Some went with Action Charters and the bigger and older group went with The Alaska Catch for a six hour outings. Captain Mike was very enthusiastic from my first phone call to him on through to my family on their outing. Unfortunately it was not a good day for halibut and our group had to practice some patience but it was still a good experience to see exactly how this type of deep sea fishing is done. They were rewarded when they tried salmon fishing during the second half of their outing which was very exciting for them! I cannot recommend this experience high enough if you will be visiting Alaska....it is a REAL experience, not some choreographed tour made up especially for cruise ship passengers which is something you will run into in Alaska or in any ship port. Fishing is the real deal and the thrill will not be long forgotten! We are still enjoying the 30 pounds of salmon that we had shipped home from our two fishing groups.
