Desert Highlights is Moab's original canyoneering guide service. This half day canyoneering tour visits a route that Desert Highlights' founder created as a technical guided canyoneering route in the late 1990's. Here, we explore an area that most people would not visit on their own. With the use of ropes and other technical gear, a competent guide and a sense of adventure, we are able to explore areas that are otherwise inaccessible. The Moab desert is our home and we are passionate about sharing it with others. During your guided tour, you will not only safely descend a beautiful, water-carved canyon, but you will learn about the flora and fauna, geology and history of the area that we are so lucky to call our backyard.

Early March 2020, just before Covid stopped tours and vacations over the US. We were in Moab for a hiking vacation, but it was too cold for most canyoneering. Most tour companies hadn't yet ramped up for the season, but the owner took me on a private tour. I splurged on a 3/4 day trip with my first ever rappel. I thought I'd be more scared than I was, and would take this kind of trip again. The walk in and out was as scenic as the pictures of Moab often look. He brought a large and varied lunch, and handled transport from downtown Moab to the site and back, then gave me local shopping advice.

Absolute highlight of our Moab trip. They were responsive to the weather conditions and advised us to change our route which turned out fantastic. Herb guided our entire family through the process, helped my parents do a tandem rappel, and even took my younger brother down with him. He’s extremely knowledgeable about the area and the trails and kept us informed and entertained on the hikes.

Amazing experience. We enjoyed every minute of it and will be back for more! Our kiddo (almost 9) loved scrambling through the canyon and it was a perfect challenge for our whole family. Melissa was amazing from getting us booked to taking us on our adventure! We will definitely be back!!!
