Desert Highlights is Moab's original canyoneering guide service. This half day canyoneering tour visits a route that Desert Highlights' founder created as a technical guided canyoneering route in the late 1990's. Here, we explore an area that most people would not visit on their own. With the use of ropes and other technical gear, a competent guide and a sense of adventure, we are able to explore areas that are otherwise inaccessible. The Moab desert is our home and we are passionate about sharing it with others. During your guided tour, you will not only safely descend a beautiful, water-carved canyon, but you will learn about the flora and fauna, geology and history of the area that we are so lucky to call our backyard.

My husband and I went on a beginner half day canyoneering trip with Desert Highlights in February. They had been recommended to us by a friend of ours who has been on several of their trips. We were nervous leading up to that day about how the canyoneering would work and if we would be able to do it given the heights. Herb was so reassuring, friendly, and professional that we didn’t even hesitate when the time came to do the first rappel. It was a spectacular experience, easy to do, and really fun! We would do this again in a heartbeat and can’t wait to try another one of their trips on our next visit to Moab!

This was my wife and my first canyoneering experience. Our guide Jake was great. He took the time to explain technique , safety, and alleviate our fears. This trip does an excellent job of easing you into the final large rappel. The scenery was beautiful and I highly recommend this trip.

6th trip to moab, we try to canyoneer every time. This was our first with desert highlights and by far the best! Amazing! Just the right amount of exciting! Patient, funny knowledgeable guide. Thank you!! Great photographers also haha thanks
