We did the Whale Watch and Fox Island buffet lunch. So many of these tours are similar, but Kenai Tours was the one we were on. We saw a few whales and the tour guide was very informative and entertaining. There are plenty of great views too.
The lunch was pretty good, compared to many “packaged meals” we had on our two week vacation. The add-on of crab legs was worth the $15.00, even for a smallish portion. Remember, ALL “vacation food” in Alaska is crazy expensive. Comparatively, this was not bad. Crazy, but crab legs and salmon cost more in Alaska than anywhere in the lower 48!!
With the meal, it was a very short visit on Fox island, but there isn’t much to see there anyway.
Note: The boat is packed to capacity as far as seating is concerned. You snooze, you loose your spot. You can see very little from INSIDE anyway as people moving about will block your view.
OUTSIDE, the views are better, especially on the bow, but it is COLD and WINDY (we went in June) - and the boat moves along at a pretty good clip. This was the coldest we felt on our entire vacation. Just remember to dress appropriately for this one (layers - thermals - top and bottom, fleece lined hoodie, plus windbreaker or outer shell - heavy jeans, add a hat and gloves if you want to be comfortable.
