This was our first visit and I wasn’t really sure what to expect. I loved the drive around the mixed exhibit. Staff very knowledgeable and will always answer questions. The elephants looked amazing and had 2 under a year old who where having fun running around the paddock. Such a clean and tidy park. Lots of volunteers to give you directions if you get lost. We will be back.

We chose to go to San Diego Safari Park for my sons birthday while on our vacation and while the day started out well, it didn't go according to plan. I cannot do reptiles, specifically snakes, in any way, shape or form. It causes panic attacks along with some hospital visits and it does control where I go and what I do. Not just a fear, but a phobia (I'm sweating typing this). I know I cannot go to the zoo, but was told about the Safari Park. My husband checked the website with in private browsing so nothing came up on ads/search history just in case they were there. When he didn't find anything we called. We explained the situation and were assured by 2 people that they had none on the property. We went in with me feeling relaxed because I wasn't going to run into one. Then we went through a pathway mid morning and low and behold, they do have them. My husband managed to talk me down, however, I was on edge the rest of the day and looking everywhere. It turned out to not be a fun day. I explained the situation to a manager on leaving, that if someone has this issue and they're calling to confirm they can enjoy their day without fear that they should be told. She informed me they have many on site and that I'm lucky I didn't run into someone walking around with one -why I've never visited a US zoo. Other than this my son enjoyed his day -especially the cheetah run (currently his favorite animal).

The park and the add-ons are expensive. The only add on that I did was the hot air balloon ($14) which provided a panoramic view of the park. Totally worth it!! Getting in a real hot air balloon obvious costs a lot more. What's great about the park is that you can be so close to the animals. Obviously, you can't touch or hold anything (which is good), but you get to see kangaroos, wallabies, and lemurs up close. If you go on a super hot day the animals will just be resting so either plan to arrive early or visit in a colder month. I wasn't able to do the tram because the wait was about 45 minutes and I was short on time. I'd love to go back in the future and spend more time there.
