Thankfully this day was perfect for walking around Charleston....even though we didn't venture too far from the starting point, we did cover a lot of interesting places and got some good food. Beth was very friendly and had a wealth of information about the history of the area and how the food was influenced by the history. The first place we stopped was Henry's on the Market. We had Fried Green Tomatoes (really good), Grits (I went into this not liking grits....still dont), Collard greens (went into this not liking collard greens....still dont) Hush Puppies(great). We then went to the Fudgery where we got a praline (yum) then stopped by the Spice and Tea Exchange, we were glad to see this as we visited one in Key West and loved it. Got some great gifts here, and a 20% off coupon from the tour. Next was a place I can't remember the name of, but we had She-Crab soup which was okay (my wife didnt like it) and some really good jambalaya. The last place we went was Cumberland St Smokehouse where we had Barbeque, mac and cheese and beans. The portions were very skimpy here...i think one person didnt even get any meat because all that was left was a huge chunk of fat (and i mean huge). come on, give a litte. all of it tasted ok. I would definitely recommend this tour and hope that you get Beth (we are real FANS (I hope that Beth got her Bulldog Tours fan at a discounted price). Lots of fun.

Our family just did the Flavors of Charleston tour with Bulldog Tours. We stopped at 5 places and had a little something to eat at each one. Our tour guide, Beth, was very informative in that she explained much about the history of food in the low country and how things became popular. We also got a little local history too. Got to try some fried green tomatoes, collard greens (which everyone cooks differently), jambalaya, she crab soup, pork BBQ, mac and cheese as well as a little something sweet. Good tour. Took about 2.5 hours.
