We researched a number of San Francisco walking tours and are so glad that we went on The Original Tour by San Francisco Native Tours. We have visited SF a lot; however, with Stuart we discovered “new” streets, saw things we never noticed before and learned about SF’s history, people and neighborhoods. We were able to see, feel and better understand SF’s history with Stuart’s excellent collection of old photos and maps on his tablet that he shared along the way. Being a 5th generation San Franciscan he also interwove stories of his family. This was also a tasting tour so we enjoyed snacks in North Beach and Chinatown. We went back to the areas we visited the next day for lunch and coffee and also brought home snacks for our family. We had so many stories and interesting facts to share with our SF family that they now want to go on the tour and will recommend it to visiting friends and family. Thank you Stuart for making us feel like welcomed friends in your hometown!

A fantastic walking tour of San Francisco-- Stuart, the tour guide, not only seriously knows this city, it is clear that he loves it. I heard about SF Native tours through a friend at work, and a few coworkers and I decided it might be a fun way to explore the city. All residents of Oakland or SF, we were all excited to learn more about the history and maybe some cool bars and restaurants in this city that we, like so many, live and work in but relatively know very little about. . We opted for a personalized tour, which I believe was a take on the "original tour"-- it started at the Trans America building(the tallest pyramid in the world, if you were wondering), learned about the buildings and history of Jackson square, saw some incredible views of the skyline and the bridges, as well as checked out Bix Jazz Lounge, where we learned about how Stuart's fifth generation SF family relates to the culture and history of the city. We then got into what one might call the eating and drinking portion of the tour, stopping first at Vesuvius, a bar next to the famous beatnik hub City Light Books. We then stopped by Molinari, a classic Italian deli and Old Saloon, one of the oldest bars in the city, before heading to Chinatown, where we had fantastic dim sum, Mai Tais, and stopped in a small yet prolific fortune cooking making shop. The whole tour was so casually educational, simultaneously professional and fun-- it really was like having a friend show you around his favorite city. A lot is changing very quickly in this city, but there is still so much rich history and so many cool spots scattered around-- it was really great to see these often hidden gems that make this place so special. I would highly recommend for local residents and tourists alike, frankly an extremely affordable price for what it is; I'm thinking I'll take my mom on either the original or parks tour when she comes up to visit.
