This is an excellent museum with loads of information beautifully presented. So many different ways they chose to display the facts, you could browse skipping from one format to another without getting bored. I really loved the words waterfall. It was also fascinating to see the actual typewriters that the authors used. For those more creative than I you can be get advice on writing skills and put them into practice. I spent three hours there and it was worth every cent.

I walked past the entrance to the Writers Museum with my two children, and my son asked if we could go inside. I was delighted to agree, and we spent a very pleasant hour wandering through the exhibits. I was especially touched by the typewriters, some told poignant stories about heir owners, and all spoke of a different time when writing took some physical effort. Recommended for anyone who enjoys books!

I highly recommend the American Writers Museum. They have excellent exhibits for all ages, including a children's room. The museum could be visited in an hour if you just lightly browse or you could spend up to three or four hours if you carefully look at everything that they have, which is what I recommend....because it is delightfully well done. Don't miss the interactive electronic game tables. You will need someone to play against. My favorite is where they gave you a poem with missing words and you need to choose from a list which words to insert, so fun! Be sure to put this down as a stop on your Chicago visit. If you have school age children and want to instill in them a love of literature, this is a particularly useful and engaging activity.
