As a literature major, I was most eager for this museum. But my economist husband was also pleased with the museum—his interest lies in early 1800s figures, while mine is with contemporary writers. The museum was a highlight of Chicago for both of us. Interactive components of the museum include quizzes and patron-generated rankings. The museum places a great focus on all forms of writing—from cookbooks to speeches to music—and provides patrons with the opportunity to do a little writing of their own on antique typewriters. I was pleased to tour the children’s literature exhibit and the Bob Dylan exhibit. The museum is an inexpensive tour for those of all ages.

We're so glad that our museum appealed to a wide range of interests and that you and your husband had a good visit! (We're honored to be called "a highlight".) We're aiming to share the diversity of American writing with our visitors, so it's great to hear that we succeeded. We hope to see you again the next time you're in town!

After being overwhelmed by the crowds at the Shedd Aquarium and the Field Museum it was a pleasure to enter the quiet calm of the American Writers Museum on Michigan Ave. it is a beautifully designed museum with interesting interactive displays and the experience was like curling up in a cozy chair with a favorite book.

We personally don't think there's anything better than curling up with a good book, so we're really flattered to hear that. Thank you so much for your kind words, and we hope you visit again soon!
