South Kaibab Trail
The South Kaibab Trail is a must-hike trail in Grand Canyon National Park. It was blasted out of the Canyon's sheer walls by the National Park Service in the 1920s, and today offers a dramatic journey to amazing features like Ooh Aah Point, Cedar Ridge and Skeleton Point. On this tour our goal, which is not guaranteed as each group is unique, is Skeleton Point, where we will enjoy a picnic lunch looking down onto the Colorado River and Phantom Ranch far below us. The hike back is arduous, so be ready for a quick descent and a longer return!

Sentier Kaibab Sud

My family of 5, of varying ages and abilities, hiked into the Grand Canyon on the South Kaibab Trail with Josh on March 2. We’ve been talking about Josh ever since! He made all of us comfortable on the trail, provided an education about the geology, history, and animal and plant life in the canyon, answered all of our (many) questions, and gave us a great lunch back up in the sun on the South Rim. I would highly recommend Josh for anything from a day hike to a multi-day backpacking excursion. We’ll be talking about our day with Josh for years to come.

We had a great experience hiking South Kaibab with Carlos as our guide. Our hike was on 2-28-22 and the weather was cool (around 32 degrees) but comfortable for a hike in the sun. It was a little icy at the top but not difficult at all to manage with ice cleats for the shoes. We were really surprised to find out that less than 2% of people that visit the Grand Canyon actually hike into the canyon... what a shame as it is something special. Getting to take in the views from a different perspective and immersing yourself into this magnificent environment is not to be missed. We went the full 3 miles down to Skeleton Point but don't be intimidated... you can go to one of two other turn arounds that are not as far if you prefer. Carlos made our trip really interesting as he was SUPER knowledgable on geology, history and culture - plus he is totally fun and upbeat. Things to consider... the hike down was quite easy for both me (who gets altitude induced asthma) and my fit 70 year old partner. But the hike up is strenuous. Totally doable but it took us time (plus I had one asthma attack - not fun). But it was GREAT to have a wonderful guide -made us both more confident. Another awesome thing was that at the end of the hike Carlos made an amazing vegetarian meal! Highly recommend Wildland Treking and Carlos. They were super professional responsive and had basic gear (backpack and poles) to use. It was a great ending to an amazing trip in the Southwest.

Jeff was a great guide! He is very knowledgeable of the hikes and was highly personable. We enjoyed our 2 day experience a lot and are glad we were able to see some amazing sites during our trip!
