Our group was disappointed by this tour. There was some history, but not as much as we had hoped and the guide was too invested in spooky details, to the point where the stories he was telling were just offensive. At one point he told us a story about a small boy dying from falling out of a tree and said something along the lines of “he was killed instantly… or at least we can hope so because otherwise he laid there dying for hours.” Ok, that was still somebody’s child, even if they are long gone now. At another point he walked us over an unmarked mass grave and only told us after the fact that he had done so - an act of disrespect I would not have consented to if given the chance to refuse. Overall, not much of a walking tour, poor storytelling, and disrespectful to the point of being offensive. I left early.

While we appreciate reviews as a tool for our guides to continually improve, we’re equally as dedicated to both sides of the story. Our guides are first and foremost, historians, and we pack as much history into our 90 minutes as both the stories and spirits allow. Concerning James—the child you mentioned—our guides interact daily with certain spirits and he’s certainly one of our favorites! The information you were given was accurate in both depiction as well as circumstances. Death is often brutal and abrupt and our guides always speak truthfully and respectfully. We’re not sure what you anticipated when booking a “ghost tour”, but spooky details and disturbing deaths are a basic component of the tour, regardless of which company you had chosen. If such details are triggering, we hope that your time with us helps you avoid similar future circumstances. However, please understand that we must forge ahead in providing quality, accurate, and respectful tours; it’s how we keep our ghostly inhabitants and history alive. Have a great Autumn!

Tommy did an excellent job explaining the good and bad history of St. Augustine. I would highly recommend this tour!!!

Our pirate guide gave us a few interesting historical tidbits during the tour. Visited three or four cemeteries. The discussion at each of these stops was a little too long, making the tour to seem to drag on. Also, we didn't see ANY ghosts or other paranormal activity!

Our pirate guide will be most disappointed to read your review! He prides himself on drawing his small group into the thrills and chills of St Augustine after dark while also ensuring to take careful time at each stop to honor our dead. Storytelling is a time-honored skill, one that can seem “long-winded” in today’s fast paced world, but trust that each detail adds to the experience! Concerning ghost or paranormal activity…we have to giggle. Even with our best efforts, “conjuring up” ghosts on demand would make our tours phony and along the lines of a “haunted house” experience. As much as we’d like, the spirit world does not perform on command and we deeply respect their privacy and contribution to our city. Some evenings they come out and play, while others remain silent. Come back and try us again!
