We booked this tour to give us an overview of the market but what we got was much more. The tour group consisted of 6 adults, 2 from Perth, Australia, 2 from Dallas and the 2 of us from North Carolina. Upon meeting us at the starting point Melissa brought Sapphire grapes....sweet and they looked like little eggplants...and dried Washington cherries dusted with Cocoa powder to get our taste buds going.
We headed out to a history lesson about how the market began over the price of onions.
Melissa was enthusiastic, energetic and kept us all engaged. We went from shop to shop learning about the history of some of the vendors and how the brought their products to the market. She always made sure we could all hear her and had a safe space to consume our samples. Melissa made sure we had napkins and collected the trash after each stop. I feel certain we had at least 12-15 different samples of tacos, salmon, truffle oil, biscuits, salmon patties, nectarines, yogurt, smoothies and plenty of water to wash everything down.
The group had a great time asking questions and getting answers to the how and why the market has lasted for more than 100 years.
I would highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting to know more about the Seattle market and its history.
