Kilauea
Kilauea is one of the most active volcanoes on earth and has been continuously erupting since 1974. Here we will explore the East Rift Zone of Kilauea, including Kilauea Crater, Pu’u O’o Vent and it’s lava flows that are currently entering the Pacific Ocean. The tour will then fly north up the windward side of the island passing Hilo town, the wettest town on earth and the heavenly Hamakua Coast. Then we will whisk you up north to explore the seven windward valleys of Kohala. First stop is the windward side of the Kohala Mountains where we will fly the coastline of Waipio Valley and then move westward to Waimanu Valley. Waimanu can experience annual rainfall of up to 200 inches, fueling 1500+ ft waterfalls, some of the tallest in all of Hawaii.

We previously flew with Mauna Loa in Kauai and had a great experience so they were one of the first companies we looked at when we visited the Big Island. We did the full island tour, and while a little pricey, it was definitely worth it. We were able to see most of the island and the important parts in a morning. It was a wonderful experience and we all agreed that it was the highlight of our entire trip. We really appreciated that the tour is private in that you get to be selfish and don't have to share the helicopter with anyone outside your party. Other tour companies have 5 or 7 seats and try to fill them up, but Mauna Loa uses 3 or 4 passenger helicopters (depending on party size). We also liked having the option of doors off, and they can actually take the doors off in the back but keep the doors on for the front passenger if a particular person was not interested in having the doors off. We would absolutely recommend Mauna Loa to anyone considering a helicopter tour in either Kauai or Maui. They also do tours at Oahu but we haven't had a chance to experience that yet, but I'm sure it's as good as the other 2 islands.

It is difficult to put into to words just how wonderful our experience was with Ben. From the moment we sat down and did a safety review to stepping gin to the helicopter. The views were amazing and Ben was INCREDIBLY knowledgable about the Big Island. I highly recommend this tour. A big thank you to Ben and Stephanie for their outstanding customer service and warm welcome.

The absolute highlight of our Hawaiian vacation! I’ve never bothered to review anything on TripAdvisor before, but felt I had to do so to share just how wonderful an experience we had. We (two adults and a 7 year old) were staying on Maui, and flew over to the Big Island for the day for a full island tour. Between seeing lava flowing from the volcano, hovering in the magical valleys, seeing waterfalls up close, and many more amazing sights, the tour alone would've been top of our vacation highlights list. However, what made this day truly special were the people at Mauna Loa. Despite a number of potential issues (first, the one cafe at the airport not beyond security now being permanently closed (make sure you eat before you go!), and second, our helicopter needing repairs which delayed our tour to the point where we’d of missed our return flight to Maui), the staff went far above and beyond to make sure we were able to get lunch, made sure we were entertained while we were waiting, and even flew us back to Maui on the helicopter! While everyone we dealt with was amazing, Stephany deserves special recognition. Not only was she key in making sure our day was wonderful, she did so in a way that made us feel as though we were family rather than just tourists she’d just met a few hours earlier. Special thanks also to Sean who went out of his way to fly us back to Maui. Truly amazing customer service! Between the amazing people and the ability to ensure you’re the only passengers (due to the smaller 3 & 4 passenger helicopters), I can’t say enough good things about Mauna Loa, and would highly recommend them for anyone looking for a helicopter tour of the Big Island!
