Jan 24, 2014 @ 7.30am - Tour consisted of myself, 1 friend and 2 guides! Can't beat that for personal attention! Read about Original Canopy Tour in James Kaiser's Costa Rica guide book in which he call Original Canopy Tour the best and we were not disappointed! Everything's included so the price is excellent and the guides are fantastic with safety as number one priority, and having fun number two. Harness and carabiners are double-checked at every transition point. First stop - Tarzan swing which gets your heart pumping. Jumping off that platform was awesome start to the tour. The zip lines are fantastic, long so you have time to enjoy them, and the view of the Nicoya Peninsula on a crisp cloudless day can not be beat! The only time I questioned my sanity was the ladder climb. The rapell down and climb up the secured rope ladder inside the Strangler Fig was not an issue. It was the rope ladder above the fig that swings as you climb. As always, your harness is secured to the ropes for safety. If you don't trust you physical strength or get super scared climbing a swinging ladder, you might want to stay on the platform for the next zip line and skip these two. Personally, I'll do it again! Every member of the staff is courteous, personable, speak excellent English, and genuinely wanted us to have a good time. This includes the van transport as well. I'd recommend taking advantage of their free pickup and delivery back to your hotel. Johnny was an excellent guide and stayed around after the tour to talk with us. I'd highly recommend this operator and their fantastic zip lines.

While in Costa Rica for a little over a week, my husband and I went on at least one tour per day and can honestly say this was one of our favorite tours. We were picked up at our hotel promptly and transported to the starting point of the canopy tour. After a brief set-up in our harnesses, we set out along with one other woman and two guides. We hiked an easy hike for about 15 minutes and then arrived at the first platform. Due to the small size of our group, we were really able to keep things moving along during the 2.5 hour tour. One of the guides even offered to take my camera and was snapping shots during the whole tour which was so nice! The tour consisted of many zip lines, a "free-fall" rappel, climbing up through a ficus tree and then up a rope ladder. The last two zip lines were the longest and I was laughing the entire way down. You really can't believe how long the zip lines are and how amazing the views are from above the trees! It is my understanding that many disreputable zip line tour companies have opened in Costa Rica in recent years, but trust me, this is not one of them! They are the ORIGINAL!! At the end of the tour I seriously contemplated booking another tour for the next morning. At $45 this is a bargain for the amount of fun you will have!

The original canopy tour picked us up on time at our lodge and drove us to the beginning of the trip. The facilities were very clean, and the staff was very friendly (and had great english). They also have lockers in case you need to leave anything. They fitted us for our gear and took us on a 15 minute hike to the Tarzan swing, which was great--though I wish it was at the end. The rest of the tour consisted of 12 or so zip lines, that increased in length, and also an opportunity to rappel down about 80 feet and then climb back up a Ficus tree. The guides followed strict safety regulations, and we felt very safe. The forest is beautiful, but it does get pretty hot later in the day, so maybe the early tour would be best. Definitely worth the price!
