Turnagain Arm Tour

Aperçu

Spend 5 hours on a half-day tour of the scenic Turnagain Arm—a narrow branch of the Cook Inlet that's backed by the Chugach Mountains. Drive on America's most scenic road, the famous Seward Highway, and stop at spots like Beluga Point to scan the landscape for wildlife. At the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, see where injured and orphaned animals are brought to be rehabilitated, and observe large mammals like caribou, bison, and elk. Lunch is not included but available for purchase at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. Later, drive through the Chugach Mountains, before finishing the guided, small group tour with pick up and drop off in Anchorage.

Activity Level: EASY

Guests should be able to walk short distances on uneven ground. Trails surfaces vary from paved to uneven natural terrain. Tour participants must be able to walk a short distance and be able to get in/out of the tour vehicle with minimal assistance.

Went on this tour on May 25, 2019. I only had one day in Alaska to do some sightseeing, knew I wanted to see the wildlife conservation center, and any other nearby locations that I would not have found on my own. Our tour guide Matt did a good job explaining some of the Anchorage culture and pointed out wildlife spotting locations on the way down to the conservation center. We were not lucky enough to spot any whales at beluga point, but we were able to see some eagles at a second stop. The conservation center did not disappoint. Seeing moose, musk ox, elk, and bears up close but in their own climate was wonderful. Will absolutely be returning there if I am able to return to Anchorage. After the conservation center, we drove through Girdwood, a small town outside of Anchorage. After our stop in Girdwood it started to rain, so our tour drew to a close and we returned to Anchorage. Would definitely recommend bringing a camera and a telephoto lens if you have it.
