Turnagain Arm Tour

Aperçu

Spend 5 hours on a half-day tour of the scenic Turnagain Arm—a narrow branch of the Cook Inlet that's backed by the Chugach Mountains. Drive on America's most scenic road, the famous Seward Highway, and stop at spots like Beluga Point to scan the landscape for wildlife. At the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, see where injured and orphaned animals are brought to be rehabilitated, and observe large mammals like caribou, bison, and elk. Lunch is not included but available for purchase at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. Later, drive through the Chugach Mountains, before finishing the guided, small group tour with pick up and drop off in Anchorage.

Activity Level: EASY

Guests should be able to walk short distances on uneven ground. Trails surfaces vary from paved to uneven natural terrain. Tour participants must be able to walk a short distance and be able to get in/out of the tour vehicle with minimal assistance.

This planet earth excursion was so much fun! The guide was a local that had so much knowledge of the area and gave us so much information. He also took us off the beaten path to see some water falls and beautiful scenery. We ate lunch in Gridwood and it was fantastic! The tour was outstanding and enjoyable!!

We were picked up our hotel for our 6 hour tour that turned out to be under 5 hours but we did not stop for lunch. We were not provided any snacks or water but were asked once if we wanted them. Our driver was nice and provided several stops for pictures and sightseeing. Although the tour was nice and informative, perhaps we were expecting more for the price we paid.

Thank you for your review. The Turnagain Arm Tour which is what you booked is advertised as a 5-hour tour, NOT a "6-hr tour". Everything that is included in your tour is advertised on our website and also on VIATOR. Lunch is not included on the 5-hr tour but it is an option on our longer 6-hour tour. We provide complimentary water and light snacks for all of our guests. These items are located in the back of our vehicles in storage bins and coolers, thus the reason that we ask our guests if they want any water or snacks. We provide these items to all of our guests on demand at our scheduled stops. Our $149/person tour price is priced the same as all of the other Anchorage tour operators doing the same exact tour. This is a very popular tour. We are sorry that you did not find the value on this tour.

We embarked on this tour with the understanding that it would be 6 hours. The tour lasted 8 long hours. We felt like prisoners trapped in a full hot van. The guide was knowledgeable but tried to put too many redundant attractions into the allotted time slot. We enjoyed the conservation center and would highly recommend visiting. I would not recommend this tour or take this tour again.

Thank you for taking the time to review us! We are sorry to hear that the tour did not meet your expectations. I want to start off by stating that you were upgraded to our Glacier Discovery Tour (6-hr tour) as a free upgrade to our Turnagain Arm tour which you booked through Viator. I am happy to hear that you enjoyed our guide and the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. The tour is as advertised, a 6 hour tour. As a convenience to all of our guests, we offer pick up at all hotel locations throughout Anchorage instead of just a few select locations. On this particular day we had 5 hotel pickups which took about 30 minutes for pick up and 30 minutes for drop offs. Since this tour carries over lunch, which is not included on this tour, we always offer our guests an option to make a stop for lunch. Everyone was in agreement for the lunch option on this day so we took everyone to a quaint little cafe along our tour route. This stop took just over one hour and everyone enjoyed the lunch stop. With the tour being 6 hours; lunch being about 1 hour and an additional hour for pick up and drop off at the hotels, this made the total time 8 hours. As for the stops along this tour which you felt were "redundant", we always include scenic stops at Beluga Point; Girdwood/Bird Creek Area and Flat Top Mountain overlook, all which are always a favorite stop for our guests for the photo opportunities and amazing views. We are disappointed that you did not see a value at these stops. Your concern about the "hot full van" I want to say that we take pride in always having a fleet of NEW and comfortable Mercedes Sprinter vehicles all which have dual climate controls (front and back). I know that having a happy temperature medium is hard when trying to accommodate different people. We attempt to keep a tolerable temperature setting as not to freeze some guests as well as not to make others hot. As you can imagine, this can be a difficult task to accomplish. We tend err on the cooler side of the temperature settings and constantly ask guests if they are too hot or too cold trying to ensure a comfort level to all. Again, we appreciate your time and thanks for visiting Alaska!
