The trip to Bear Mountain Lodge where we could see dozens of wild brown bears close up, was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that I would recommend for everyone! On this 9-day tour we also got to visit Seward and take a wonderful day cruise of Kenai Fjords, seeing whales, sea lions, sea otters, and numerous other wildlife. We also got to see the majestic Denali Mountain and the surrounding area. Our guide Cade was excellent, taking us to many prime spots to see so much wildlife. I highly recommend Brushbuck for great tours of the Yellowstone/Grand Teton areas and Alaska.

We did this trip mid July 2023 Bear camp was fantastic. The rest of the trip not so much. Very cramped vehicle to travel in. For the cost of this trip for 2, it was about 14K. without airfare. For this kind of money you would expect first class service. We did NOT get that. Could not hear the guide if you were in the back. He had a broken microphone so he said. No offer to help single women take luggage to and from 2 flights of stairs. This was such a DISORGANIZED trip. Never really new when lunch or dinner would be. No reservations made ahead for meals, so consequently, 8PM dinner was it. Was not happy with breakfast choices. Always seemed to be on the cheaper side and fewer choices. The guide was knowledgeable in animals and etc.,but seemed a bit more preoccupied with getting his own pictures for his blog or wherever he was posting them. We have done a LOT of travelling and this is the worst experience ever. We would NEVER recommend BrushBuck tours.

Hi Penny and Eric Balzer, We wish you had reached out to us before posting this review and I see Patti and Cade have reached out to discuss your trip with you. We do find this unfortunate that this was your opinion after so many great things happened on your trip! After discussing with other customers we found that they had a great time! So we would like to respond and let Tripadvisor readers make their decision based on what you actually saw and what happened on this adventure. Day 1- Guests were picked up on time in our 2022 ford high top touring van on time. Guided 4 hours south to Homer. This is a beautiful drive through the Kenai Peninsula where Cade glassed up with provided optics, Dall Sheep, Mountain Goats and he didn't tell me if you saw any moose that day, but its probable. Any day a person goes from Anchorage to Homer, its a good day. Its beautiful! Day 2- Cade took you to the Homer airport (sea plane). The flight left on time and you were in our bear lodge seeing bears. The flight is private charter and we love working with this company! They leave on time and get us in safely every time! We would hope guests would appreciate that as working with AK planes since 2005, I can tell you, it can be tough. We call this "the Alaska factor". Thats great you got into the bear lodge with no delays! Day 3- All day bear viewing. Cade has pictures of bears that were close. Bears that were far. Bears playing. Bears walking all over. Cade said at one time you had 33 BEARS in view!! WOW!! We would hope our guests would rate that alone, as more than 1 star. I know I would! Marti, Merrill, Mac and Tony at the lodge all work hard to provide meals, 4x4 buses that are good for pictures and great for guests experience to see bears! Thats why we choose them. Great relationship since 2012! Day 4- Airplane arrives, on time, flies you out, Cade safely moves you 4-5 hours to Seward. Its a beautiful drive! I'm not sure if Cade stopped at our eagle viewing spot but we always do unless its a down pour. Eagles at 15-20 yards is pretty awesome flying by and feeding on fish. Check in to hotel went fine. Cade did tell me he should've helped with the luggage better. You arrived on time. Dinner available in Seward. Sea otters around the docks. What a day! Day 5- You chose the Kenai Fjords National Park tour that Patti and Polly booked for you. Off to see orcas, humpbacks, harbor seals, puffins, caving glaciers and more! How could that be 1 star? Dinner in Seward and off to your hotel that was taken care of for you by our Alaska specialists. Day 6- Off to Denali! This day can be long. One of the reasons we have a big van and the best touring van on the market. We heard the PA wasn't working. We should've had that working for Cade to interpret. Off to see the fish weir of salmon spawning, Exit Glacier, Musher Mountain and settle in to your hotel that was taken care of for you by Patti and Polly. Cade said he had your luggage on the carrier and when he got to your aisle you pulled it off and went up the stairs. Cade was more than willing to help you! Day 7- We hope you enjoyed your helicopter trip to see Denali. Booked by our BrushBuck Alaska Team. Denali Bluffs hotel, also booked and taken care of you by our Alaska Team. Day- 8- The bus tour we booked so you and your party of 3 could enjoy going as far into the park as you can! I'm not sure what you saw, but depending on weather, Denali National Park is a pretty special park! We hope you enjoyed it. Denali Bluffs hotel was taken care of for you, by our Alaska Team. Day 9- Cade safely moves you in our high top touring van to Anchorage. Talkeetna is a cool stop to shop and enjoy. I'm not sure if you stayed to enjoy the Anchorage area but we would hope you enjoyed Alaska as a whole. Anybody reading this, please understand, when you book with BrushBuck we have a team of people in our business and another team of professionals we work with to make your vacation fantastic! Patti, Polly, Cade, Steve, and Adam all worked very hard to make this adventure go well from BrushBuck. Booking hotel rooms, to activities on free days, to Cade having over 100 five star reviews lets you know we have a great team working hard for our guests. Marti, Merrill, Mac, at our bear lodge cooked, guided and worked hard to make sure their adventure went well (30-40 bears in 2 days). Crystal and her pilots worked hard to run on time and maximize our guests time in the bear lodge. Cade showing all the highlights we've scouted from salmon spawning to walk up glaciers to moving guests safely to their activities in Seward and Denali. Theres a lot of work that goes into a seamless trip and its unfortunate that sometimes, we'll fall short in peoples eyes. We'll keep on keeping on and hopefully this response allows a full picture for anyone reading. Thank you, Adam Lackner Co-Owner

My husband and I just completed the 11 Day Ocean to Interior tour with Brushbuck. It was not our first time to Alaska and, as a well travelled couple, I must say that this experience was by far extraordinary. If you want to see the “real” Alaska go with their wildlife tour. I say this for three main reasons: the places you travel to, the guides, and the small group experience. First, this tour transverses the coastal and interior portion of Alaska traveling by van, ferry and bush plane. We went to the remote area of Lake Clark National park on Cooks Inlet and spent two days observing bears with just our group of 8, our two tour guides and the three guides with Bear Mountain Lodge. Incredible experience. We glacier hiked the Root Glacier in the tiny, quaint town of McCarthy in the Wrangell St Elias National park. We sailed by the glaciers in Seward and watched grizzlies, caribou, moose etc. in Denali. Our guides, Daniel and Haeli, were professional guides that were extremely knowledgeable on the wildlife, the geography, geology, plants etc. of Alaska. They carried scopes to zero in on wildlife sightings and took amazing photos with our cell phones attached to the scopes. They were laid back, fun, and made sure the group was always comfortable. Finally our small group of 8 made the tour intimate, friendly, and full of laughs and stories. Having the small group experience made learning, listening and sharing information smooth. If you want to experience Alaska and the beauty of it’s mountains, oceans and wildlife this tour is for you.
