Several months ago my mother and I visited the Kentucky Horse Park for her birthday, shortly after I moved to Kentucky. In the lobby we met Shaun and he told us about the tours he offered. We couldn't take one that that day because of scheduling, but vowed we would definitely do it another time. A few months later my mother visited again, this time with her friend from Wyoming in tow. This tour was at the top of our list.
We took the 9:15 AM tour on a Saturday, and had about ten other people with us. It was probably the best thing we did all week. Shaun did not disappoint, taking us to some lovely horse farms. The early morning tour meant that we saw lots of thoroughbreds coming in from their overnights in the paddocks and the barns were full of horses at every farm we visited. We got to pet, feed and even speak with workers on the farms who take care of the horses full time. We visited historical farms and farms that were featured in movies. The tour was over three hours but it never felt long, and Shaun entertained us with trivia questions about horse racing, and thoroughbred history while we were in the bus. I even got a horse shoe at the end of the tour for answering so many questions. I live in Lexington and cannot wait for more people to visit me so I can take the tour again! Wonderful.
