Smoky Mountain Outdoors Upper Pigeon River Trip is a Tripadvisor Top 10 Experience with a Travelers' Choice award, and the closest whitewater rafting trip to the cities of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge! No experience is needed, so all are welcome. Experience Class 3 to Class 4 whitewater rapids with a top-rafted rafting outfitter. This is the longest rafting trip on the Pigeon River, equipped with a guide in every raft.

Swimsuits and shorts work best. Secure shoes with a heel-strap are required (tennis shoes, water shoes, sport sandals with a heel-strap). Bare feet and flip-flops are not allowed. Don't forget to bring a change of clothes and a towel

Guides were very knowledgeable with their primary concern being your safety. Entertaining for experienced paddlers also simply because you can enjoy the trip and not get beaten to death by Class V rapids. If you expect a wild ride down Willie Wonka's chocolate river, you won't get it here. Only negatives are the price for pictures is absurd, and our ticket taker sent us to the wrong meet-up at the wrong time. But even that worked out since the guide came looking for us. Overall, a fun afternoon.

Our tour was with Nila and she made the experience 100% awesome! Started in the morning at 11am, it was just a family of 4 and us as a couple sitting in the back with Nila. The trip has some class III-IV rapids so the thrill is there but it’s still great for kids too, had a little boy in our group that was working right with us to paddle through. There is also a little swimming section at a calm part of the river but at this point you should already be soaked from the rapids you just hit before. Instructions were straight forward and Nila made us feel safe through the whole trip. She directed us through some wild rapids, especially those class 4s that we would hit! And she made it a little private so we can enjoy the river almost to ourselves by keeping us a bit from the other rafts. Awesome guide and memorable experience!

We enjoyed the two-hour trip down the Upper Pigeon River with Jeremy as our guide. My wife and 14-year old son had never been in a raft before. Though the class 3 & 4 rapids are a bit scary, it’s really not much differ than being on a roller coaster. You only encounter rapids occasionally, and you really don’t have to paddle much, so I highly recommend this activity if you’re in the Smokies. The photo package is pricey, but if you volunteer to sit up front you will get lots of good pictures.
