I'm a little slow to post this review, but better late than never. I checked Tripadvisor before leaving for our trip to Napa Valley/San Francisco to see what else was available besides "wine tasting". Found the balloon ride, and although pricey, figured we wouldn't have another chance to go in a hot air balloon, so booked it!
Our "flight" was on July 28, on a beautiful, sunny morning (apparently the day before, they had to cancel due to the winds). At Domaine Chandon by 5:30 am, and were treated to coffee, muffins and fruit before a pre-flight chat about what to expect and waiver signing. Ushered to waiting vans, where we were driven a couple minutes to the neighboring driving range where balloons were in various stages of "expansion"! Very cool sight to see, if you've never seen it! Hustled into our waiting balloon basket, which could hold 16 people! No problem getting in either :) Our pilot was Bob, (Go Hawks!), and he was awesome - very informative, and kept the small talk going, as we were a very quiet bunch - just enjoying the view I guess. We were, of course, at the mercy of the winds/breeze, and that day, there wasn't much. Bob managed to get us up to about 1450', then also dropped down low to "scare some rabbits" in the vineyards. It was gorgeous watching the sun rise, and taking in the scenery. Bob bypassed one ideal landing to extend our flight a little longer (usually between 45 - 60 minutes depending on landing opportunities), and then deposited our balloon exactly where we took off from!! He was very proud of himself, as he was grinning from ear to ear!!
We were driven back to Domaine Chandon for Mimosas, more coffee and a very nice breakfast. Everyone was a little more talkative afterwards, and we got some great info about touring Napa and San Francisco.
I would highly recommend Napa Valley Balloons, as it is a "once in a lifetime" experience that everyone should try. Thanks Bob (hope you've received your Superbowl t-shirt by now) :)
