Aventure d'observation des baleines Zodiac Raft

Aperçu
The experience of watching 40 foot (12 meter) whales from a 24 foot (7 meter) Zodiac raft is something you'll never forget! Following Hawaiian Marine Park laws of stopping at least 100 yards (90 meters) away from these magnificent animals, you get a close up look at the migrating humpback whales. It is not uncommon for them to be curious about the raft and come right under the boat!

Captain and crew were entertaining and had great knowledge to share. We enjoyed the small group and the Zodiac.

Mahalo for enjoying our smaller crowd during your whale watching adventure. Happy to hear the captain and crew were engaging and sharing any and all whale facts they could. We have really experienced Captains and all act as naturalist guides.

This was the best of our Big Island experience! We did the whale watching tour with Captain Rick from Captain Zodiac. I've done a bunch of whale watching and this was absolutely incredible. Rick knew all the best spots, took us right there, and we got to see mama and baby whales with too many breaches to count-- seriously, over 25 and I have incredible videos to relive the experience! Then he knew exactly where to look for a heat run where we saw 4-5 males being super active to get the attention of a female. Tons of pectoral fin and tail fin slaps and slices, diving, etc.! It was clear he had respect for the ocean and the whales, getting close enough for great viewing but keeping enough distance to respect their space. We saw another boat get too close and the whales went under and didn't come back-- SO glad we were on the boat with the Captain who knew how to find them and give them enough space to stick around and play! It was such a great experience that we went back the next day for Captain Cook snorkeling which was equally excellent (and discounted for multiple bookings with Captain Zodiac)! The owner was so kind and helpful. Definitely the best adventures of our whole trip! Check out this SMALL selection of the amazing pictures we got!

Your review is one reason why we do what we do and have experienced captains at the helm. We could not be more proud of our captain for everything you described. Your whale watch sound like a dream and we are happy you got picture and video to remember it by. Mahalo, hope to see you again.

On the day of our sunset tour, the wind picked up and the seas were a bit choppy. The operator offered everyone (there were only 5 passengers) a chance to reschedule, but nobody did. Fortunately, the wind died down minutes into the tour and we had a great time. So many whales and calves breaching that I even think our guide was surprised. She really was very skilled at finding the whales and did an amazing job. Lots of spinner dolphins leaping out of the water as we returned to the dock at sunset. The ride is a bit bumpy sitting on the side of a zodiac boat, but there is a rope along the side of the boat to hold on to, and another by your feet to hook your feet under (wear close-toed shoes). You are definitely CLOSE to the action - a lot closer and than on a large tour boat. You might get a little wet from some spray, but not drenched by any means. I'm in my 60's and it was a blast. My wife is not a great swimmer, but life jackets are in a center bin on the boat and she felt safe. If you're a senior and healthy and wondering if you should do the zodiac tour I'd say go for it - you won't regret it! Sixty is the new forty. Live a little! If you need something to do to pass some time before your tour, visit Turtle Beach just north of the port. Lots of turtles to see!

We do like to be transparent when the weather is going to make the tour bouncier than normal. So happy that the weather calmed down while you were out there and got a great sunset whale watch. Live a little, I love it... you guys are welcomed back anytime.
