Kapowui is a family run business and and an icon of southern California.

We live, eat, and dream surfing and teach surfing because we want to share our love and stoke for the sport. This is a life choice for us and what gives our lives meaning.

All of Kapowui's instructors are imbued with the Aloha spirit, live within blocks of the beach (4 of them live in surf vans), surf every day and have many years teaching experience.

Even if the gray skies werent on our side my daughter had an amazing time learning how to surf thatnks to her awesome instructor. We will be back again.

my two day -two lessons experience was just average. 1st day with Nick was excellent. 2nd day with Pat was disappointed. I found them based on reviews. Maybe will find other lesson next time.

Lemei, I'm sorry you feel this way. FYI, all of my instructors are professionals and the best of the best and give 100% every lesson. Perhaps the conditions were not as good on the 2nd day and you think it was the instructor. Or perhaps you expected the instructors to act the same, or Pat wasn't as cute as Nick, or Pat didn't engage with you the same, there are a million reasons it could be, ( tide was higher, waves were bigger or smaller, you were tired, no sun, to sunny, you or the instructor was having a bad day, etc, etc,etc.....) but I'm not sure because you didn't specify why you were not happy with Pat. Thank you for you business. I do suggest you find another company in the future. I find when someone has what they perceive as a bad experience or service they come back with a bias, almost as if they are looking for any reason not to have fun or to confirm their "disappointment" as you put it and inevitably have a worse time, and I would not want to put you or my instructor through that. Have a blessed life and all of us at the Kapowui family hope you keep surfing. Martin.

These ladies and gents are the real deal! Took my first lesson a month ago and came back for my second last weekend. Their instructors are equal parts knowledgable, fun, approachable and supportive -- no matter what prior experience you do or don't have. Surfing can be intimidating but the Kapowui team makes you feel welcome and comfortable every step of the way. Excited to continue my surf journey with them!
