A lot of detail of the battle given by the tour guide; stop at three battlefield locations with a bathroom stop; stop at Little Round Top needs to be longer to take in the tower; free parking provided; can pickup the tour at the bus tour center or Gettysburg visitor center (this location provides lowest cost for the bus tour & tourist center film, cyclorama & museum; $8 saving for adults).

It rained the two full days we visited Gettysburg, so we took advantage of the indoor events, museums, tours, etc. Our tour bus was crowded, but the certified tour guide gave us a comprehensive tour of the monuments, facts about the Battle itself, etc. He had a thorough knowledge of the townspeople and how the Battle affected them during and after the 3-day massacre. We were struck by the loss of so many men's lives. There are wonderful monuments of each of the Union states, and you can drive by all of them on your own with an audio player or on the tour bus, as we did. If I had it to do over, I'd opt for taking our car so that we could make longer stops at each of the monuments.

I would highly recommend the Gettysburg Battlefield Bus Tour for those interested in Civil War history. Our guide was extremely well-versed in the Battle of Gettysburg, and indicated that the two-hour bus tour really just scratched the surface of the conflict that ensued on July1-3, 1863. It was fascinating to pass over the same roads the soldiers took to lead them into battle, as well as the areas and places they stayed at when the bullets weren't flying. The Inn at Herr Ridge, a B&B we stayed at during our stay in Gettysburg, was used as the first Confederate hospital during the Battle of Gettysburg. We were able to get off the bus at several different locations and the guide was able to tell us what had occurred at that particular spot in much more descriptive detail. Often we learned that we were standing on ground where soldiers were wounded or killed, and it was heartbreaking to know that so much death and destruction occurred on the very ground right beneath our feet. There is so much sad history and lore entrenched in the town of Gettysburg that the tour can be a bit overwhelming and emotional. As you're riding in the bus and listening to the guide tell the tale of what happened on July 1-3, 1863, you definitely realize the magnitude and historical significance of the Battle of Gettysburg. It was to change the course of the Civil War.
