EXCELLENT! We went on the Makena kayak and snorkel 3 hr tour w/ Griff as our guide. Our tour was super because Griff is an excellent guide!! Tons of knowledge of the area - both under the ocean and on the neighboring islands - highly respectful of the Hawaiian people and culture, plus our environment. Saw turtles, flying fish, a vast variety of colorful fish 🐠 and more! The 3 kayaks of 2 folks each fully understood snorkeling and kayaking after he taught us his vast knowledge. If you go to Maui, it’s VERY much worth signing up with Griff, and making the drive to the launch site! He navigated our journey in mind of the wind and tide. Price was great too!

I spent hours trying to decide which snorkel tour to go on. I didn't want to be sardined on a boat full of people zooming to pristine underwater spaces where people crawled over one another to see marine life ... so I went in a small group (8 of us) by kayak instead. Many kayak companies launch from the same place but they are mindful of one another and respect each group's space. Not only that - Michelle (Aloha Kayaks Maui) and other eco-tourism companies truly love and respect the environment they work within. They pass along knowledge by communicating valuable do's and don'ts of paddling safely and of respecting the reefs, the turtles, and the marine life. We learned about the history of the area - of the various islands within view - and even learned a little Hawaiian (and how to pronounce Haleakala properly! The 4-hour tour was awesome (never long enough!) as we were able to get to two different spots and timed it so we weren't vying for space near a reef with hundreds of others. The motorized boatloads full of snorkelers who zoomed in and unloaded in a non-motorized space was a little like being at a Walmart on Boxing Day....but Michelle had us go to a different section and before we knew it they were gone and we were able to enjoy the area without wafts of fuel filling up ours noses when it was time to clear the face mask. From the time I booked online on the company's website to the time I had to give the kayak back, the service was fantastic and the guide (Michelle) was amazing - informative - fun - and a very capable sea-worthy guide. Pay the extra and get the photos - they're worth it xo

We had such a great time on our kayak and snorkel trip. Although we didn't see any whales, we saw plenty of turtles and cool fish! Michelle was super knowledgeable about the islands of Hawaii and the creatures in the sea. She kept us all safe and showed us a great time! Definitely a doable experience for kayakers at any experience level. We'll do it again for sure!!
