Went on the Manhattan Clipper Sail out of Pier 17 in the mid afternoon (not on 4th of July)…the pros of the tour was the location is easy to find..and the boat sailed around as the sun was setting which was beautiful. The cons: We thought there would be music playing and/or staff talking about what we were seeing. But there was nothing. One drink was included in the tour cost…bartender was super helpful and lovely - but the wine was so terrible I had to toss it. The end of cruise was a bit awkward when staff asked folks for tips…we always tip after our various tours and we did so on this one…but the manner in which they asked about it was just simply awkward. I think this tour needs a bit more “entertainment/education factor” - providing some music and perhaps some discussion by the staff onboard about what we are seeing as we cruise by it. I would do it again but hope they make a few changes to make it even a better experience for us out of towners.

This was an amazing experience. The staff that worked on the ship were wonderful, friendly, and helpful. The food was delicious and I enjoyed the manner that they served it in. The reason I only gave it three stars is because they sold a lot more tickets than they had seating for. I think it is unforgivable that so many people had to stand for more than five hours on a ship. I would definitely do this trip again if it weren’t for that fact.

Dear Susie, Thank you for your review; gratified that you enjoyed our crew, food and our service levels. Very In the many years that we have been hosting events, including the Macys fireworks viewing event, we have never had this kind of feedback regarding a lack of available seating. We did not sell more tickets than usual, however, and therefore do not know why people “had to stand for more than 5 hours” — there are many horizontal surfaces, benches, deck boxes, deck furniture, and a large seating platform on the raised quarterdeck. We take the matter seriously and will ensure everyone has a place to sit.

Dear Libby, It is distressing to hear that you were so unhappy. We were not “oversold” though, the boat is USCG certified for 149 passengers and we were carrying just under 120 guests for the Fireworks sail. We try to communicate clearly, what the experience entails in order to set appropriate expectations for our guests. We are most certainly NOT a dinner boat with a sit-down dining room. The charm and beauty of our vessel is something we are proud of. Our vessel is a replica of the historic Clipper City, the Great Lakes Schooner that sailed from 1854 - 1892. Her ships drawings are archived at the Smithsonian in Wash., DC, and a cross section of her hull is the featured display at the Maritime Museum in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Please look at our pictures on our website, you will see people sitting on our large ocean-going hatches, our large deck boxes, our benches and capstans, or simply leaning against our railings or full-sized cocktail bar while taking in the epic scale of one of America’s largest passenger sailing ships. We are not a “Dinner Boat” with tables and chairs —nor do we pretend to be. We try very hard to communicate that the experience is aboard a large authentic sailing ship and what that entails. Lastly, our offerings featured a full 5-hour open bar & our menu (copied below) was one of abundance & served by our friendly and capable servers. We take pride in the fresh and tasty food that we served. Provided were (3) welcome Appetizer platters, (6) passed Hors D’oeuvres, a (7) item Main Course, and (4) Dessert options.
