My kids, ages 10 and 13, wanted to zipline while visiting Maui. My husband and I had zero desire to zipline. Northshore is one of the few companies that doesn't require an adult to accompany minors on the zipline. They did let us follow the group to take pictures and to ensure our kids were comfortable. We felt very comfortable after meeting the guides and seeing them interact with the kids and the group. We headed back to the parking lot after the second line. People from 40-270 pounds can participate. This was a well-run business.
We stayed in West Maui. The drive here was about an hour. You head out as if you were doing the Road to Hana. You branch off toward upcountry. It was a very pretty drive. On the way you can stop in Pa'ia to browse some cute shops or eat. And you can visit Ho'okipa to swim and see the turtles basking on the beach. Northshore Zipline is well worth the drive.
When you pull in, you see old military vehicles. Your guides later explain the WWII history of the property. You check in a 1/2 hour early in a tented office. Rayma checked us in and she was great. Her adorable son Elijah entertained my kids while we waited.
There are a few picnic tables and Bubba's Shrimp and Dog truck, which serves good food.
The guides get the group outfitted and introduce themselves. Our kids were the only kids in their group of about 12. Shark, Hollywood, and Mcfly were HILARIOUS as they instructed the basics of safe ziplining. They emphasized safety with much-appreciated senses of humor. They made everyone in the group laugh and instantly feel at ease with one another.
After my husband and I watched the kids for two zips, we enjoyed food from the food truck. We had 1.5 kid-free hours. We talked to a number of others who had shown up for later tours and to several other guides. Everyone was so nice and we really enjoyed ourselves. If I were 20 years younger and still cool, I'd want to work with these people.
When the group returned, my kids RAVED about Shark, Mcfly, and Hollywood, telling us how funny and encouraging they were. The adults in their group were laughing as we all watched the photo slide show after. Prices to purchase a cd of the pictures, which were of excellent quality, was fair. The photos captured the great time had by all. For the rest of the afternoon, my kids kept telling jokes and stories their guides told.
We'd return and recommend. Thanks for giving my kids great memories of their first Maui trip.
