Alaska Railroad Anchorage to Seward One Way

Departing from downtown Anchorage, the Coastal Classic Train travels south along the rugged coastline of Turnagain Arm, with dramatic views of the Chugach Mountains plunging directly to the sea. At the end of Turnagain Arm, the tracks veer away from the road system into the backcountry wilderness – and what many consider to be the most scenic stretch of the Alaska Railroad, accessible only by train. Watch for views of massive glaciers, steep river canyons, and cascading waterfalls. The train arrives to Seward at 1115 am, allowing plenty of time to explore this charming port town – or opt to take a marine wildlife & glacier day cruise into the nearby Kenai Fjords.

This was an awesome way to travel. We sat in the dome car, and the vistas were astounding. Breakfast was decadent and delicious. The staff was gracious and very knowledgeable. This is a fantastic way to journey through the amazing Alaskan vistas. Highly recommend the dome cars!

We took the train from Anchorage to Seward and then back to Anchorage the next day. We chose the cheaper Adventure Class and glad we did! The seats reclined and had foot rests, we had access to a domed car and could stand outside on a platform! We had dinner in the dining car, but we had to wait a long time before our car was called to go down. The meal was good and less expensive than any other meal we had in Alaska! The excursions in Seward also make sure you're back in time for the train. Most I found will pick up and drop off at the station. Make sure you check in and get your boarding pass! The ticket does NOT get you on the train!

I took two rides. One was from Fairbanks to Anchorage and the other one was from Anchorage to Seward. Both are worth the value. If you are short on time then do try Anchorage to Seward ride. The whole stretch is scenic and I would love to get on this again.
