Informative and interesting, so much knowledge provided by Rob an ex teacher. He stopped at all the places we wanted to see and told us Interesting facts on each stop. From the tales of the garment industry and the history of the University was an eye-opener. He used his knowledge of History to enthrall two Brits. It was a no holds barred experience. We learnt about how New York received it's name from the Dutch settlers right up to invasion of yes us, the Brits. How the elite of New York used immigrant workers to build their wealth, also how many young immigrant female workers lost their lives in a horrific fire, so sad. But that led to workers rights, over time pay and safety. We were shown the tiniest home in Greenwich which if a bed were in the room, you would need to clamber over it to reach the other side. He believes it sold for over 4 million. You what.... The building where Mae West spent 11 days incarcerated, go figure. Her bail was 10 thousand, those with her 10 dollars, amazing. This tour was filled to the brim with so much more than we had expected. The shop where the first album of Bob Dillan was displayed with pride, alongside the legends that are The Beatles, U2, Madonna and many others. This was fantastic as an earlier tour had shown us the building Bono had just off Central Park. Towards the end of the tour we were taken to Maries Crisis Cafe and were informed they hold sing a longs which delighted me as they also have a piano and the Broadway boys and babes often frequent it. He told us of some authentic Italian eateries and the places where Sophia Loren sat as did members of Godfather part 2. Taking pictures in the gay quarter was fascinating as he regaled us with the 3 night feud between the dirty NY cops of the time and the youth who were disenfranchised by the cruel treatment. Bricks and pavement were ripped from the building and sidewalk to aid them in their defence. What actually happened brought about much needed change. Who knew New York and Greenwich Village held such awe. I could sit and write so much more but my feet ache and my head is spinning as this day was a once in a lifetime experience, not to be missed off anyone's bucket list. Thanks Rob and Lee.
