AMAZING experience I recommend to everyone who has not done ice fishing yet or has not seen the aurora borealis (although i understand it is not always guaranteed to see).
In the day we did snowmobiling which we did before in iceland, but this experience was much easier on us. It was nice and smooth, not too bumpy. They also had heated handle bars and helmets how luxurious for comfort! Beautiful views the whole way!
At night it was a little difficult to find where to ice fish but our AWESOME guide John met up with us and guided us to the spot. As soon as we got there, we could already see the gorgeous Aurora Borealis! So thankful that John knew how to work our camera and change the shutter speed to get the most perfect shots of the beautiful lights! He took numerous photos and was very patient with us.
He educated us a lot about the hunting world. This gentleman is highly skilled and incredibly smart. It was entertaining to hear everything he knew about... everything! He was generous enough to share his photos of what he's hunted and caught. Credit to him, we know nothing about survival...
It helped that we were a group of four and not with random strangers...We each caught one fish. Three king salmon and one rainbow trout, which John prepared for us. (was yummy!) He also cooked up some reindeer sausage which was out of this world! Condiments provided too. The ice fishing experience is awesome! the cabin was heated with a wood burning stove, which was great for us as we are from Hawaii and can barely handle anything below 60.
HIGHLY recommend this specific tour even if the lights may not appear; the whole experience of ice fishing in the middle of nowhere is amazing if you have not done it before.
