As an experienced traveler, I have taken part on a number of guided tours all over the world. Boston, being a destination that is rich with history, both past and present, should be an easy place for tour companies to make a living and to earn positive reviews. Unfortunately, this tour is the worst one I have experienced.
Our guide called us 15 minutes before we were supposed to be picked up to let us know he would be delayed (definitely appreciated). Once he did arrive, our ‘guided tour’ consisted of being driven around Boston with very little commentary or stories about the city. In fact, had we not carried the conversation, there would have been very little. Tour guides are supposed to draw you in with their storytelling and excitement. That was not the case here.
The two places we stopped, Bunker Hill Memorial, and the USS Constitution, included maybe 2 minutes of high level commentary (you’d get more reading the plaques placed around the sites) and then being told “take you time exploring and I’ll meet you back at the car when you’re ready.” It left us shocked at the first stop and dumbfounded at the second.
The last stop for our tour, since we decided to cut it short, was the Harbor Tour, which was the highlight of the experience. This is not affiliated with this company, so can’t give any points for even that. Once we returned to the wharf, we asked our guide to drive us back to our hotel. Very disappointed to say the least, especially for the price of this tour.
