I expected a good show, but I didn’t expect the best show I have ever seen in Las Vegas. We bought two 17 year old kids and were warned about some raunchiness, but we are not easily offended and it was all in good fun. Note that age 16+ is permitted to attend the show if accompanied by an adult but otherwise 18 is the lower age limit.
We smiled and laughed and generally felt 100% entertained from beginning to end. Scott Thompson understands regular people, understands what is funny, knows how to recover and quickly when a joke doesn’t land. He doesn’t take himself too seriously but he clearly takes his work very seriously, never resting on his laurels, keeping it fresh, being timely. He also avoids mean-spirited cheap shots and manages to stay PC without anyone quite noticing.
He has said in interviews that he tries new things almost every show and we saw that with mentions of timely news headlines, even if he knows the joke will only work for a few days.
One of the greatest charms was that he seemed to be actually enjoying himself; genuinely interested in interacting with us, wanting to give us a great experience. He felt authentic and it was just excellent all around.
I recently heard an interview with him talking about how on some level he always wanted to be a rock star. The musical kind. You’ll see that inspiration at his show, but within his chosen profession as a comic, he is without question a true rock star.
Lastly, it was very sweet and humble and respectful that he thanked Gallagher verbally and with a gentle tap of his image and a gesture toward the sky for inspiring and encouraging him in his youth.
Scott Thompson, who we all know as silly prop comic Carrot Top, is a class act, a humble and grateful and highly intelligent human being, and we all have something to learn from him.
