Within 5 min. Chef Jacqui knew i grew up in Philly!!! Go figure!
My family and I have been to Philadelphia many times but they had never toured 9th Street and the market.
Despite a very rainy day,we laughed and enjoyed her knowledge of the immigrant movement, its foods and, most importantly, its people!
At the vinegar and oil shop, the Mexican tortilla shop,De Bruno's,(the Original One), Ispro's for cannoli's and meeting,(Basil #1 and Jr.) at Villa Roma,we tasted and tried lots of Italian foods that came here, not from Italy, but from Marco Polo and China.
Who knew!!! The recipes though are truly a family thing.
Santucci's made us a yummy home made tomato pie where we sat down and "broke bread"!!
We bought all kinds of stuff and sampled gelato on the day after the Eagles won the Eastern Division for football!!!!!!!!!
Its been awhile since I have been there but found the uniqueness of the area a reason to return soon.
Chef,thanks for the memories!
