I loved this tour! Modern architecture has never appealed to me, but it is so prevalent that I decided to take this tour to learn more about it. The tour gave me an excellent introduction, including comparisons to what came before, the ideology that was foundational to this approach, political forces that supported the modernist building boom in Chicago, and developments in methods and materials that made this style of architecture prossible. The tour guide did an excellent job of pointing out distinctive features of the mid-century modern buildings that we walked by. I'm still not a big fan, but some of the buildings we saw (for example, the Inland Steel Building) were so beautiful that they won my appreciation.
