Leave the crowds of Skagway behind and visit Chilkoot Lake State Park in Haines.

Your tour begins with a high-speed catamaran ride along the steep-walled fjords which connect Skagway to Haines. Over a dozen unnamed waterfalls drop hundreds of feet from both sides of the boat. Upon arrival in Haines, you will meet your knowledgeable guide for a drive to Chilkoot Lake State Park.

This park has it all: a turquoise lake surrounded by snowy mountain peaks, a salmon-filled river flowing into the sea, and important Tlingit cultural sights. Bald eagles, harbor seals, and brown bears are often seen here.

Our tour guide Katherine was so knowledgeable, nice and informative. She said “we should go straight to the bear viewing spot early”. She was not wrong! Mom and 3 babies spotted in seconds of arriving. She brought this amazing scope which allowed for fantastic up close visibility and great videos and photo. Then she could spot eagles in a tree a mile away! So impressive. The whole tour was great. And on a very minor, less significant note, my vegan sandwich was so good! Fresh veggies and avocado. And even vegan cookies!

Thanks for this great review of your tour with Katherine out to Chilkoot Lake. It is an excellent bear viewing area but of course never guaranteed. So I'm so happy to hear that you saw Mom and three cubs right away. I also appreciate that you mention your vegan lunch. With advance notice, we are happy to accommodate special diets. And its important to me that these lunches are as tasty as the others.

Seemless transition from ship to boat to tour and back again. Anna was a wonderful guide, knew the hot spots and a few secret spots. Saw so many eagles and eglettess, found mountain goats, river otters, and salmon. Anna shared her lifein Alaska, a beautiful way to see the state.

We know it can be confusing when you get off a large cruise ship in an unfamiliar port, and we do all we can to make sure that it is easy for you to find our guide and get started off on the tour with no hassles. It sounds like you had a great time in Haines with Anna. She is an excellent guide and loves to share her nsider information that you can't get from books.

Anna was wonderful chasing wildlife in the area. Although we did not see bears, we saw many bald eagles, mountain goats, salmon running up river. The scenery was spectacular!
