What an awesome experience! My grandpa and I fly out from Seattle to see family and knew there were some must sees on the trip. Sally, our guide, was top notch! Being a local to the area, she had so much insight in not only the historical side, but also the social and environmental factors that played in to these sites. We are from Seattle and there are major differences in the way of life I never imagined. I really appreciated the way Sally approached the conversation about Native American and Black families in the early colonial days. Not an easy topic to discuss with strangers but so interesting to see the other stories form this time.
Looking at the price, it seems steep. I tried to find something cheaper, but there was nothing that compared to this group. Loved that Sally purchased and waited in the lines to get tickets so Grandpa and I could look around the gift shops or buy snacks from the little eateries.
If you are younger (mid 20's/ early 30's), bring your older family members on this trip! It was even more special having my grandpa with to learn about his childhood through the conversations we had with Sally.
My one regret - that I didn't reach out to Signature Tours earlier about securing motorized scooter for my grandpa. My grandpa has limited mobility when it comes to long days. I assumed we could get a Wheel Chair or Motorized scooter at each location with no difficulty. Each location did had wheel chairs and motorized chairs though. Sadly, because of Covid 19, the other locations didn't have enough available that late in the day. Had I told Signature Tours up front, they would have been able to secure that ahead of time at each location no matter what time we got there. Sally was super helpful directing us which way to go that would be easier to walk though! Thankfully, Jameston had a lot of benches to take breaks at.
It was a long day, so always pack snacks! It was incredibly worth every penny.
