Glass is mysterious and dangerous. History is written by the winners and resented by the losers. The Corning Museum of Glass transcends histories complexity and accents the freedom of glass by combining both art and history without conflict or borders. Many of the featured exhibits are within necessarily sterile environment so as to not disturb or distort the integrity or beauty of the art herein contained. Families, historians, and artists collectively can enjoy the many demonstrations available in several locations throughout the day, while each show is just as fun and informative as the last. The museum of glass is literally from start to finish. From 3500BC in Egypt, through Persia, through Rome, back to Egypt, to Germany to Corning itself. Through every empire, artistic ages, practical uses, scientific creations, technological advancements, and just the age of man itself. Every artifact is labelled and full of its historical significance that progresses as you work your way through the ages. The Corning Museum of Glass is a worldwide destination that does not disappoint. It is appropriately removed from the hustle and bustle of the cities and nestled in a very charming town of Corning; a town literally founded by glass cutters in the 1860's. Its proximity yet removal from the canal trade routes coupled with its central location for the coal needed to create windows that shaped the world as we know it.

Brought the out-of-town family. Our main objective was to watch the hot glass show and we enjoyed it so much we came back twice the same afternoon. All were fascinating, different, and entirely worth while. Goes without saying that the museum is world class and the industrial displays are educational, interesting, and fun.

What a great museum, many of the pieces are out in the open, allowing up close viewing! The docents are great for sharing the stories of the artist and their work! Make sure you take on the glass making demonstrations, fascinating! Plan your trip early enough so that you can take one of the hands on experiences, making your own souvenir!
