We thoroughly enjoyed our time on the River Ventures tour. Ed was a wonderful, knowledgeable guide and JJ did a great job navigating through the bay and using his drone to spot manatees from above. Both were personable and full of information about the area and its wildlife. We were able to see several sleeping manatees in different areas of the bay, including a mama and baby in House Springs. It was hard to see through cloudy water in some areas (due to sand and silt) at times, but it was amazing when a manatee was suddenly rising from below to get a breath of water before diving back down. It was crystal clear in the House Springs area, but we were told it’s rare to be able to swim there when manatees are present; we just got lucky. After returning to the shop, I was surprised when all the staff and crew sang “Happy Birthday” to me with a candle in a cupcake and a card signed by everyone- my husband must have told them this was my birthday present ahead of time. I feel like you’d be in great hands with whomever guides and captains your tour from this business. We would love to do this again and hope to see some more active manatees next time!

Our family did the manatee tour and had so much fun! My husband and I and our two teenagers had a great time and the kids have told us so many times how glad they are that we did it. We saw several manatees (including a mama and her baby!) and they truly come up to you and just kind of hang out. We spent most of our time in the water with manatees and they were so cool, it truly takes your breath away to be so close to them. They are so majestic and huge but so gentle and calm. Our guide Natalie spotted so many of them and made sure everyone in our group had a chance to get close and get a good look. Captain Chris was so fun and answered all kind of questions and gave us background about Crystal River. Captain Chris also had hot chocolate and coffee for us when we got back on the boat which was such a nice and appreciated touch. We would love to do this again when we’re back in town. We’ll never forget swimming with manatees!
