Very well organised, had an amazing experience snorkelling with these wonderful Manatees. We particularly liked how conscious River Ventures are of obeying the rules and being respectful of the animals and their territory. Wade and Trish were friendly and knowledgeable hosts aboard the boat and were very patient and helpful, especially around using the snorkelling equipment. The only negative I would say is that it describes itself as a three hour tour but we actually spent about an hour in the water, the rest of the time was watching a safety video, changing clothes, making our way out to the spring and then doing the reverse at the end. But other than that we would definitely recommend the experience, particularly with River Venture as they genuinely love the Manatees, follow the rules and make sure the animals come first, but you still enjoy yourselves.

Booked through TripAdvisor after checking reviews from many. We wanted to see manatees up close so traveled to Crystal River the week of Christmas with tickets for 12/23 at 7:15 am. We wanted to be there early when the creatures were most active. We also picked this time of year since it was the best chance to see them when they've migrated towards the warmer waters of the spring. By the way, that's about 72 degrees F. The business is operated not even a block off the main North/South road named Suncoast Blvd. A tiny gift shop and waiting area was provided while our group assembled. We only had 6 tourists scheduled for our time slot which suited us fine. We were escorted to a training room where we watched a video. The hostess then eyeballed us and handed us wet suits and pointed us in the direction of the changing rooms. Wet suits range in size from toddler to 5X. Only one in our group needed an adjustment in size. The hostess was very professional which I appreciated since I am a portly. :-) There is a shelf to leave possessions behind though key fobs are stored in a drawer by a cashier. We were also provided the option of taking our belongings with us on the boat in a trash bag. We opted to leave ours behind BUT will take them with us next time. More on that in a jiffy. The transport to the river was via a minibus or club van. Again, another delightful guide. We arrived at the water just after sunrise and it was tranquil and beautiful. Our boat captains were Wade and Trisha. They snapped a few pics and helped us onto the pontoon boat. Wade gave the customary safety instructions and then proceeded to talk about the area and manatees. We hadn't yet lost site of the dock when we stopped for the first encounter. There were 3 or 4 moving about. There'd been lots of rain the previous night so the water was a little murky. Wade called us back to the boat and we moved further along the river to Jurassic Spring area. BINGO. Lots of manatees including very young ones. You don't SWIM with manatees. Kicking is prohibited. You float with the help of a pool noodle and use your cupped hands to delicately doggy paddle around. It's super easy. The biggest challenge is getting the mask and snorkel adjusted and breathe correctly so you don't leak water. But if you do, it's not biggy. It's clean and fresh and not an issue. Wade and Trisha communicated back and forth as he was on the boat and she was in the water. They'd move us to this spot or that spot. Trisha took pics that were available for purchase at the doc. We'd debated taking our own but were so glad we didn't. We loved the experience. And I loved hearing my husband, a man approaching 60, giggling like a school girl as the manatees brushed against, flipped, and sucked on his arm and leg as they passed by. From start to finish it was right at 3 hours. The time on the water was plenty and we were tired but happy before time to go back to shore. Once back on the boat, we peeled off our wet suits and put them in the container to be laundered. Our towels were soaked by now and we wish we'd have brought our dry clothes with us. Definitely an incredible experience and one we hope to someday share with our grandkids.

We booked this trip in September for my wife’s birthday in January, I was watching the temperature as the day’s got closer to our trip. Needless to say Monday morning was a crisp 36. The staff at R\V was great and very knowledgeable and it was very apparent they love there job. I’ve always loved Florida wildlife and being outdoors but actually being in the water with the manatees was incredible. I also saw lots schools of snook, snapper, and jacks. The video and underwater pictures were top notch, I highly recommend this company and will be doing the scallop trip this summer.
