Guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. The hike was not overly strenuous. He was very excited to show us every.single.berry. it got a bit old after the first 4 or 5. I would have enjoyed a more rounded experience. Maybe a bit about the wildlife in the area, about the trees and other plants. We stopped often, so if you are looking for a more brisk pace, this is not for you.

This was our second day back to the National Park; the day prior was all about animals. We had different levels of hiking skill within the group so I had chosen an easy tour. While the description says moderate I always regard the descriptions as saying they are harder than they are - and am usually right most of the time. This was no exception, the walk was pretty relaxing. A chilly but sunny morning we couldn’t have asked for nicer weather. Dana was really informative and the walk was very pleasant. We talked about many things along the trail and the focus was on plants and the landscape. While I would have loved to have spotted more animals I am realistic enough to realise this cannot be guaranteed even though some reviews air disappointment at this - crazy in my view. This was another way of experiencing the park up close and understanding how everything all fits in to the grand scheme of things. I recommend including something like this if you have time.

It was cold and misting on and off, and our guide had gloves, hats and trekking poles to lend us. Although our guide was very nice and knowledgable about the local fauna, since we were on some Denali National Park trails, we thought there would be more hiking or wilderness involved. It was an extremely slow nature tour (we stopped *literally every fifty feet or so*) to discuss trees, mushrooms, berries, plants, etc. and at one point, moose scat. It was 99% on even paved/gravel/dirt trails. We hardly covered even part of one trail before we had to turn back. It was overpriced at $115 per person.

As the owner/operator of denaliguides I appreciate your feedback, and would like to respond. Your experience with the walking tour is the reason we offer the wilderness hike. The walking tour is a slow, information based tour, meant for all ages. It varies in speed and distance, but stopping and seeing the life on the mountains is what we do. We offer a wilderness hike as a result of experiences like yours. Our goal on those trips is to never hear "it was too easy." That same guide could have led you up a mountain (off trail) on the hike. It does cost more: $150/person (half price for kids under 18). Our pricing is based on our small group size and very short season. We could charge less if we took people by the busload. But we self-limit tours to 6 travelers, and it is a better tour for it. Moose scat is sometimes a discussion on all our tours however. If we don't bring it up, someone always asks. We learn a lot from scat.
