My partner and I went to Key West on a whim after our Fourth of July plans were derailed by her family members getting COVID. We decided we wanted to snorkel, and booked Honest Eco based on the reviews here. We absolutely could not have been happier.
When we arrived, it was only us and one other family group on the boat. There were supposed to be a few other people but their flight got delayed; apparently the crew booked them onto a later trip as a result, which is also nice to see--they didn't just get screwed. With that decided, we went to look for dolphins, and boy did we find them!
We first went to the area called the "dolphin playground." We hoped to see a couple of dolphins from a distance, but instead a group of 25-30 showed up! Most of them ignored the boat, but a few were curious and came up to us, swimming right under and around the boat--they were so close that I got a little bit of spray from a blowhole! While we watched the dolphins cavort, Jacqueline and Brady explained their behavior and the science of the area. They were both extremely knowledgeable and I learned a lot, plus DOLPHINS!
After we watched the dolphins for a while, we set sail over to the snorkel site. We got in the water, and Jacqueline led us around, pointing out different kinds of fish and telling us all about them. We saw lobsters, pork fish, angel fish, tarpon, and even a barracuda! It was one of the best snorkeling trips I've done, both because of the guidance and the high quality equipment. Jacqueline also took pictures with her GoPro and sent them to us after the trip, which was great.
On the way back we had some tasty snacks--hummus, veggies, and fruit--which was a welcome change from the fried food we'd been eating for a couple of days in Key West. The boat was also pleasant, with good seats, lots of viewing points, and even a bathroom.
I should also point out that this wasn't the only time we sailed with Honest Eco--we also did a sunset cruise and fireworks viewing on the 4th, which my partner will be reviewing. That was a great time too, a small-group, BYOB antidote to the big party boats with mediocre bands and overpriced tickets. Being out on the Squid is a great time, and I highly recommend all of their tours!
