Floating through the heart of the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve in Haines Alaska is a must see attraction and you won't want to miss the jaw dropping scenery, delightful guides and genuine Alaskan wildlife.

Watch eagles catching salmon and caring for young eagles in the numerous nests that line the riverbanks. Look for bears, moose, and a host of other wildlife that call the preserve home.

Our family of 5 (83 year old grandma, 2 adults, a 14 year old and 11 year old) all loved our float adventure. It was a great way to explore the Chilkat with beauty everywhere you look. The raft ride itself was pleasant. Passengers are not required to do any work other than look for eagles and to bounce up and down should you get stuck in a narrow pat. We saw A TON of eagles - some were incredibly close. It was thrilling. The guides were all friendly and knowledgeable. A bus and guide will meet cruise passengers at the pier and transport them to/from the raft adventure. We were fortunate enough to have Scott Ramsey who gave us a great history of the town and gave us a tour en route. Lunch is provided and there are port-a-potties available before and after the rafting. We actually selected Holland America based on this excursion and it did not disappoint! Holland America is currently the only cruise line allowed to visit Haines on a weekly basis. We highly recommend this outing and we also highly recommend a visit to Haines. It was our favorite town.

This tour was great. It was really more like a river raft ride than a "float" -- the ride being fun in and of itself and tranquil and the "real thing" rather than the Grizzly Rapids Ride at Disneyland!. We saw tons of eagles and had a fascinating tour guide in our raft. Really, really fun and totally worth doing. My two teens enjoyed it almost as much as I did.

It takes a while to get there BUT IS WELL WORTH THE WAIT. VERY SKILLED GUIDES, beautiful views and fast moving water. All persons are instructed how and where to sit, what to do, what NOT to do and you will be INSTRUCTED ON THE TECHNIQUE to get the raft floating again WHEN you run aground. Seeing the eagles on the water 'waiting' for dinner to arrive is PRICELESS. Must have seen 5-6 groups of 6 or more eagles hanging out and watching the water. Old white haired and the younger dark haired eagles all hanging out together. AWESOME.....
