I'm giving the one star for a few reasons that due to the nature of the event I can't elaborate on. They (scorched in particular) are hyped by so many people and have a 5 star rating anything less than 1 can't bring this place back to the 4 star rating that room deserves.
I can see the "This is amazing" reviews from people that haven't been out of the area to do rooms, but some of the "escape room enthusiasts" on here leave me more puzzled than anything in the room we just did. If you've done 300+ rooms and this is in the top 20, you need to travel more. Get out to Los Angles or Las Vegas, or as I'm being told by other locals Orlando. If you travel from afar to do scorched I feel bad for you.
We've only recently moved to the area, but out of the 20ish rooms we've done, this is no where near the top in the area. While we got out, not one of the puzzles in Scorched is novel. The layout is expansive, but due to the linear style and the bottleneck of a single poorly executed item at the end (probably due to the age of the puzzle) having (6) team members was a waste of money. The smoke and mirrors doesn't cover up the very linear and outdated room. Even if we hadn't botched (overthinking) a puzzle in the beginning and destroyed the record (not saying that we would have), we would have been disappointed and asking ourselves "is that really the end?" with how basic this room was.
This place has sooooo much potential to be revamped and made something great, the size for large groups is there, but the lack of puzzles (good ones at that) is just disappointing and I wouldn't waste the money to have (2) others standing around.
Save your money and do "Servants of Slight" up at Exit Games. Or do this AND THEN see what an immersive well thought out room with plenty to do looks like. Or if fear and an experience is what you're into try "The basement" over at Intense Escape where you'll be shocked to see what tricks you're mind can play.
