Come explore the Alaska Wilderness off the road. Explore in a guided and climate controlled Search & Rescue Fat Truck/Sherp while staying safe from the weather, bugs, and the occasional wild animal. This 3 Hour tour takes you off road up steep mining trails to vista views, teaches you about the local history, and geological formations near Denali National Park in an adventurous off road Fat Truck search & rescue vehicle. (Plan on about 3.5-4 hours if using the the hotel shuttle service from select hotels during the summer season)

This excursion was #1 on our favorites list this past week. From the very first conversation with the owner and booking, until we left after completing one of best trip related excursions that we have ever had, hands down. The trip was educational in so many ways and led by one of the nicest guys (Joel) I have ever met in life, period. I mean seriously, Joel takes this excursion to the next level. Between the information he parleys, the complete feeling of safety and thought put into this trip are clearly evident to each participant. We honestly felt like we could have gone home with Joel and met his family. If you do not take this excursion while in the Fairbanks area, then shame on you, you will miss one of the greatest experiences you can have anywhere. Heck we may go back, just so we can spend more time with Joel. :) This is a very unique adventure and one suitable for the entire family. Call Joel!!!

The fat truck is amazing, and Joel does a great job of sharing the history and points of interest along the route of travel. Getting to drive the fat truck was an extra added attraction. If you want great views, fresh trails and excellent company, take the fat truck tour.

I will preface this by saying that we received more than we anticipated. Aside from the fact that just being in this type of vehicle is an experience, having Joel (owner/guide) be the one to lead us was extra. For starters, he is born and raised in AK and has spent the last several years in Healy. Being a resident, a State Trooper and add in his love of podcasts, vast knowledge of the area, and just an all around genuinely nice guy, it’s the perfect combination for a well informed trek of history! I highly recommend taking advantage of the opportunity to partake yourselves if you’re ever in the area. I’m confident you will get more than you bargained for as well!!
