This was a bucket list item and it did not disappoint! This was our second attempt as a previous try was cancelled due to weather. Florida Adventure was great to work with and when our first trip was canceled, there were no issues with refunds.
In preparation for this trip, we did research on the best time of year to go and can definitely say to look for no moon or early in the new moon phase. Don't be disappointed with cloudy skies as that is a bonus; the darker the better. Don't worry about navigating in the dark because FA does a great job with keeping you safe. One area we failed to research was best types of photography. We were unable to capture anything but several people read about night filming and lighting options. That is a regret on our end and not FA.
When you get to check-in, you will be provided a life jacket and glow-stick. Your guides will go over use of paddles and kayaks and tell you what to expect. If you are traveling with someone, expect to paddle together in one boat. It tells you to bring bug spray and you should! I would also bring a small dry bag or waterproof phone case for your phone and keys.
ERIN and JAKE were our guides. They were very knowledgeable about the environment and eco-system. Erin was able to find some comb jellies and let us hold them. We saw so many fish under the water causing the bioluminescent reaction. We were not expecting that. We saw a pod of dolphins in the water too which was amazing.
Take some cash for a tip. It is hard to remember cash these days, so ERIN and Jake's tip jar did not reflect the amazing quality of service they provided. If FA is checking on employees and reviews and providing bonuses, ERIN and JAKE deserve one! I know of apps like Venmo and CashApp so maybe there could be a future option of a QR code on the table to allow for mobile tips.
Overall, our experience was wonderful and we highly recommend. There are other companies out there but FA is our choice!
