The only way to see Fort Lauderdale is from the water. Views from the roadways and bridges simply do not do justice to the city. You can't see the lovely mansions, the abundance of wealth, scenery or catch the essence of the town in any way other way than from the water.
The least expensive and easiest way to see Fort Lauderdale from the water is to take a ride on the Water Taxi, which offers all kinds of interconnections and local routes. You may read other less than four star reviews, but most of those come from people who seem to compare the Water Taxi to that of a road taxi or taking a bus. Not the same! The Water Taxi isn't really designed or meant to be a main means of transportation. If you have to get some place and be there on time, choose another means. The Water Taxi is really for the leisure and fun of the ride. Most of the operators are the best of the tour guides one could ask for, politely pointing out many of the details, homes and "who's who" of the city. The Water Taxis are by far the least expensive and one of the best tours of the city available.
