Wife and i self guided our tour of Yorktown and Williamsburg in 2016 and thought we did a successful job of it. We had a sibling reunion comprising of 8 adults meeting at Williamsburg for a week and thought this was a great tour to do as 1. We could do it altogether in one vehicle, 2. nobody had to drive and 3. make decisions on where to go next and how long to spend at each place.
That part was successful. The trip was good, though got a little long at the end. The last stop at Yorktown was a little long. We and other tour mates were all ready to leave a half hour before we did.
Tour itself. Format was good. Bus was clean and comfortable.
But, and this is based on collective comments on our group of eight and some of the other people on the bus:
1. We were told the tour would start at 8am. Bus did not arrive until 8:20am.
2. Windshield was dirty and streaky even though there had been no precipitation in the area for a week.
3. John the tour guide/driver liked to tell personal family anecdotes and give good restaraunt reviews of restaraunts he liked and told us not to go to restaraunts that he had a bad experience at. We all thought this was unprofessional.
It could have been better if all the anecdotes had been of historical nature on the subject of the reason of the tour. We might have ignored mentioning the dissing restaraunt reviews in this review….
